With another Bank Holiday around the corner, it's a chance to escape the everyday and spend time doing the things you love most. But, with an ever-increasing to-do list, and the frenzy of everyday life, it can often end up being anything but relaxing. Here's my go-to guide for a blissful Bank Holiday weekend.
Don't make any plans
This might sound like odd advice – but so often we end up agreeing to all manner of family gatherings, coffee with friends or playdates for the children, that before you know it, those 24 hours of ‘extra’ time pass by in a flash. The same goes for DIY – there’s no rulebook saying that you must repaint the bedroom or tackle the urban jungle forming in your back garden. Turn off your alarm and allow yourself to wake naturally, have a slow start and keep your schedule free to do with what you fancy.
Get outdoors
There’s simply nothing better than the great outdoors to ground and energise you. Whether you go for a quick stomp around the park, head off on a road trip to the seaside, or venture off the beaten track, I guarantee you that you’ll feel rejuvenated and refreshed in no time. Why not make a day of it and pack a picnic of your favourite foods to enjoy an alfresco pitstop along the way?
Cook up a storm
When I have a little more time, there’s little I love more than cooking a delicious meal from scratch. It’s so satisfying – from researching recipes, to going to my favourite farm shop to buy the ingredients, to mindfully preparing a tasty dish of home-cooked food. Not to mention the chance to enjoy a kitchen disco with a soundtrack of my favourite tunes to help me chop, dice and slice.
Turn off tech
Did you know that in the UK, we check our phones on average every 12 minutes? It’s a habit that I’m really guilty of, so this weekend, turn off the tech and go analogue. It’s a chance to disconnect from the world and reconnect with what’s around you – and I think you’ll be surprised at how little you missed when you turn it back on.
Self-care Sunday
As the saying goes ‘a Sunday well spent brings a week of content’ – and I couldn’t agree more. It’s the perfect opportunity to light a gorgeous candle (or why not try one of our Aromatherapy Blends in your diffuser), pop on some cosy loungewear and indulge in a little bit of TLC – we’ve curated some gorgeous Ritual Collections for you, to help restore the balance and leave your skin looking and feeling refreshed and revitalised.
Get an early night
While it can be tempting to stay up late, the long-weekend is a great opportunity to recharge the batteries and catch up on some much-needed sleep. Try heading to bed an hour earlier than you would usually. To create the ultimate soothing sanctuary, spritz your bedroom with Sleep Easy Pillow Mist a few moments before you turn in, and pop a little Relax Aromatherapy Rollerball onto pulse points. If you struggle to drift off, try a comforting cuppa – like Chamomile or Valerian tea, or malt-based drinks, too. Sweet dreams!
Whatever you do this weekend, I hope you’ll be inspired to take some time to relax, unwind and reconnect with your true self.
Stay well,
Leighton x
