After a long career in the beauty and wellness industry, our Co-Founder, Leighton joined forces with our founding team to bring his experience and passion for natural health and wellbeing to create Nature’s Journey. We caught up with him to find out more.
How did you get involved with the launch of the brand?
I’ve long been convinced of the power of plants to transform how we look and feel – and having worked in the industry for nearly 20 years, I’ve come to know a thing or two about what makes a great brand. A chance meeting with D’Arcy and Philip introduced me to the incredible benefits of CBD, for both mind and body. It was a true meeting of minds – we shared the same vision to create a brand that people could rely on – and that would help them achieve total wellness. And so, Nature’s Journey was born.
What do you love most about being part of the Nature’s Journey team?
I think what I love most is that while we all have different skills and experience, we all share a passion for what we do. No-one is more important than anyone else, and we all have respect for each other, and their opinions.
What are some of your favourites in the range, and why?
Honestly, I love the whole range, but one of my favourites is Radiance Facial Oil – it’s so lightweight, but it really helps give my skin a healthy glow and I find the aroma so relaxing. My other must-have is our Relax Aromatherapy Blend – I always have it in my diffuser in my snug. It’s perfect for winding down after a long day.
What does ‘wellbeing’ mean to you?
I think there’s a misconception that wellbeing is all yoga, ice baths and herbal tea – but for me, wellbeing means doing whatever makes you feel like the best version of you – whether that’s going to the gym, a long stomp in nature, getting lost in a good book, spending time with your favourite people, or simply nothing at all!
What is your motto in life?
I’ve always been inspired by the words of Mother Teresa, who said ‘Not all of us can do great things, but we can all do small things with great love’. They’re words that I try to live by every day – often it’s the little things that make the biggest impact.
Describe a day in the life of your job
My day usually starts with a check-in with the team, catching up on the latest news and progress. I’m at my best in the morning, so I try to keep this time clear to work on projects – whether that’s developing a new product, planning marketing activities, or writing content. My afternoons normally are when I clear my inbox and have any scheduled meetings with our agencies and partners. Being such a small team, we all wear many different hats – it’s one of the things that I enjoy most about my job, and the variety is actually rather energising.
Describe your perfect ‘self-care’ day
My perfect self-care day starts with making a cup of tea (a passion I share with my colleague and dear friend, Sarah) and heading back to bed for a little longer than usual, followed by a warm shower and changing into something comfy and relaxed before heading out for a long walk with my canine companion, Bertie and my other half, stopping off for a bite to eat and a pint of ale at our favourite spot. In the evening, I love to play my piano for an hour or so – it really helps me to wind down and escape the everyday. At the end of the day, there’s nothing better than cosying up with a good book and some gentle music (I love the Mindful Mix on BBC sounds) before settling down for an early night.
